This course was designed to provide educators with foundational knowledge of the science of reading, the components of reading (Phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension), and structured literacy that is consistent with Ohio’s Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement and Ohio’s Strategic Plan, Each Child, Our Future. This course equips school staff to recognize, respond to, and refer students experiencing crises related to depression, suicide, self-harm, and school violence to proactive resources. Fully approved by the Ohio School Safety Center, this training satisfies the statutory requirements for School Threat Assessment Teams under Ohio HB123 (ORC 5502.263, Sec. 3313.669) and may be retaken to fulfill the three-year renewal mandate.

Upon completion, participants receive a contact hour certificate suitable for submission with their building’s emergency management plan.
