Privacy Policy for Ohio Learning Community

Welcome to the Ohio Learning Community (OLC). We are a collaborative platform operated by Educational Service Centers (ESCs) and Information Technology Centers in Ohio. Our mission is to provide free courses and professional development resources to Ohio educators. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use our platform.


1. Information We Collect

1.1 Google Authentication

To ensure secure access, we use Google Authentication (OAuth2). During this process, we collect:

  • Your name

  • Email address

  • Profile picture

1.2 Voluntarily Provided Information

Users may also choose to provide additional details, such as:

  • Profile details

  • Educational background

  • Professional experience


2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

  • Authenticate users securely

  • Create and manage user profiles

  • Send important platform updates

  • Support community interactions and collaborative features

  • Improve the platform experience

2.1 Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR Compliance)

We process personal data based on:

  • Consent: When users provide optional data or agree to communications

  • Contractual Obligation: To deliver services through our platform

  • Legitimate Interests: For security, performance, and service improvement


3. Information Sharing

We do not sell or trade your personal information. However, data may be shared in the following ways:

  • ESC Tenants: The OLC is a multi-tenant platform. Each participating ESC or educational organization maintains its own user database as a subset of the entire OLC user base. These organizations only have access to the data of users affiliated with their tenant.

  • Tenant Administrators: Each tenant designates a Tenant Administrator who also acts as the Data Protection Officer for that organization. These administrators manage and safeguard user data within their respective tenants.

  • Platform Support Staff and Providers: Authorized personnel who provide technical and support services may access data as needed, with appropriate safeguards in place.


4. Data Security

We implement physical, technical, and administrative measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. While we strive to use industry-standard protections, no platform can guarantee complete security.


5. Your Data Rights

You may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you

  • Request corrections to inaccurate or incomplete data

  • Request deletion of your data

  • Object to or restrict certain types of processing

  • Withdraw consent for data use, where applicable

To exercise any of these rights, please contact your Tenant Administrator or the OLC platform administrators.

The platform may link to third-party sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those websites.


7. Cookies and Tracking

We may use cookies or similar technologies to enhance user experience and collect platform usage analytics. You can manage cookie settings through your browser.


8. Data Retention

We retain your personal data while your account is active or as needed to provide services. Once an account is deleted, we will remove or anonymize your data within 90 days unless longer retention is required by law.


9. International Users

Our platform is hosted in the United States. If you access the OLC from outside the U.S., your data may be transferred and processed according to U.S. laws.


10. Children’s Privacy

OLC is intended for adult educators. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we become aware of such data, we will delete it promptly.


11. Policy Updates

We may revise this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on the platform with the updated effective date.
